Player Code of Conduct

Player Code of Conduct

The Cape Ann Youth Lacrosse Organization (“CAYL” or the “Organization”) requires that all players and participants in its activities abide by the Player Code of Conduct (the “Code”) as described herein.   The Code is specifically designed to create a safe and respectful environment for all involved.  It is also created to address the desire of CAYL to allow for positive character development among the players, and to encourage ethical behavior.  The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.  The following tenets are designed to achieve the goals of the Organization and must be agreed to and followed by all participants.  They are:

I am participating to have fun and to learn the game of lacrosse.

I will inform the coach of any physical concern, disability or ailment that may affect my safety or the safety of others.

I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the Organization and the league.

I will not engage in any unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or parent such as booing or taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profanity in language or gesture.

I will not encourage or participate in any behavior that will endanger the health or well-being of any teammates or participants.

I will play by the rules and attempt to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

I will treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of team, race, creed, sex or ability.

I will compete fairly and maintain a positive mental attitude about my self, the team and the organization.

I will not ridicule or demean my team, team mates, coaches or officials for making an error or losing a competition.

I will respect the official(s) and their authority during games and will not confront an official or opposing team’s coach in a manner that demonstrates poor sportsmanship during a game.

I understand that this Organization is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all times while involved in its activities or representing it in any way.

I will immediately bring forth any issues of concern to the appropriate official of the Organization and will assist in maintaining a positive and welcoming environment for the sake of all involved.
